About Dr. Millie Lee MD, MBA, YOGI

Welcome

My name is Dr. Millie Lee and it is my mission (my Dharma) to guide you to take charge of your health and well-being.

By combining the science of Western medicine with the Eastern mind-body practice of yoga, I use a holistic approach to help you get healthy, stay healthy, prevent disease and love how you do it. A healthy life is a happy life.

Science is finally proving what the ancient yogis have known for centuries!

I AM is about empowering ourselves to be who we are meant to be – healthy, beautiful, happy, divine beings.

“I AM” are two of the most powerful words; for what you put after them shapes your reality.

I AM healthy.

I AM strong.

I AM flexible.

I AM happy.

I AM … you fill in the blank…

Background

Born and raised in New York City, I wanted to become a physician. I  received my Bachelor’s degree from New York University and MD degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NY. I did my internship and residency in internal medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center where I also did my fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology. I was proud to be the first female interventional fellow at Columbia!

For 20 years, I practiced general and interventional cardiology predominantly in Southeastern Virginia where I was the first female interventional cardiologist to practice there. Working with cardiac patients every day, I saw first hand the effects of stress, poor nutrition and lifestyle choices on my patients’ health. Given the demanding lifestyle of an interventional cardiologist, I too experienced the effects of stress on my own life.

I started practicing yoga which changed my life. I became a certified yoga teacher (RYT 200) in 2013 with advanced training in therapeutic and cardiac yoga. I realized that yoga offers a mind-body approach to health through many pathways, but most importantly via stress reduction.

After 20 years of treating patients with heart attacks, high blood pressure and diabetes using traditional medicine, I realized something was missing. The traditional approach to a patient with heart disease involves drugs and procedures such as angioplasty and stents. While this approach, no doubt saves lives acutely, in the long run, it does not address the primary risk factors that lead to the acute events and to chronic disease, including stress.

Now, my focus is to empower you to take ownership of your health and happiness. I am truly passionate about health and you can ask anyone who knows me — I walk the walk.  I wholeheartedly believe that health can be achieved through an integrative, holistic approach focused on nutrition, exercise, yoga, mindfulness and stress reduction.

Knowledge is powerful. I share what I know and continue to learn on my blog where I write about nutrition, yoga, and educational pieces about different disease states and holistic approaches to disease prevention and maintenance of wellness.

When I’m not working as a health consultant or teaching yoga, I am working out (walking, running, Soul Cycle, HIIT classes, and hiking), traveling and sharing life with my family and friends.
